Troubleshooting

Install

INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE — an older build with a different signature is still installed. The unsigned rc1 is the usual culprit. Uninstall it and install again; see installing.

INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_NO_CERTIFICATES — the file did not download completely, or it is not the APK we published. Check its SHA-256 against the download page.

"App not installed" — usually an existing copy signed differently, or not enough free storage. Uninstall the old copy and check free space.

Lockdown

The bars come back after a swipe — the overlay permission ("display over other apps") was not granted. Grant it and restart the app.

Home still works — the app is not the active lockdown; check it was enabled after the PIN was set.

I cannot get back in — five taps in the bottom-left corner, then the PIN. If the PIN is lost, see the admin PIN; there is no recovery, because there is no account to recover from.

Display

The screen dims or sleeps — Android's display timeout is winning. Pin brightness and timeout in the app's display settings, and turn off any device power-saving mode.

The board is rotated — auto-rotate is on at the device level, or the screen was registered with the wrong orientation. Orientation belongs to the screen record.

Content is cut off at the edges — the panel is overscanning. Either turn overscan off on the display, or keep content away from the outer cells.

Playback

Video stutters — almost always the decoder, not the network. Re-encode to 1080p H.264 and check nothing else heavy shares the board.

A picture takes a moment to appear — a very large PNG. Convert to WebP or JPEG.

Media disappeared — the cache ceiling was reached and the oldest items were evicted. Raise the ceiling or reduce what is on the panel.

Network and console

Cannot reach the console — the device took a new DHCP address, or it is on a different VLAN from your laptop. SSDP discovery only crosses a subnet if your network forwards it.

The console asks for a password I do not have — the console password is separate from the admin PIN, and it is set per panel.

A widget is stale — its feed is failing, and it is holding the last good value on purpose. Check the feed URL from a browser on the same network.

Restart behaviour

Blank after a power cut — either the device is not set to power on when power returns (a hardware setting, not an app one), or the app is not starting on boot. Test one reboot before leaving site, every time.

Take the log from Settings → System, note what the screen shows and what you expected, and get in touch.
