Your first board
From a fresh install to a published board on the screen, using one of the 451 templates.
This is the ten-minute path: import a template, point it at the screen, publish. Building a board from an empty grid is the designer guide; this one deliberately does not start there.
1. Register the screen
In the console, open Screens and add the screen this device drives. A screen has a name, an orientation and a resolution.
Orientation is a property of the screen, not of the layout. Set it once here and every layout you assign will be composed for it.
2. Import a template
Download any layout from the template gallery — the file is the layout itself, as JSON. In the console, open Layouts → Import and choose it. It arrives as a draft, not as something already on the wall.
3. Change the words
Open the draft in the designer and replace the placeholder text and images with your own. The photographs that ship with a template are there so the board is not empty on first run; they are not licensed for you to leave in front of customers.
4. Publish
Press Publish. The draft becomes the published version and the screen picks it up within a few seconds. No restart, no reboot, no re-provisioning.
If it looks wrong, Revert takes you back. The last twenty published versions are kept.
5. Assign it and lock the device
Back in Screens, assign the layout to the screen. Then, on the device itself, set the admin PIN and turn the lockdown on — see kiosk lockdown.
Do these in that order. Locking the device before you have a PIN set is the one way to make extra work for yourself.
What you should have
A screen showing your board, a device nobody can navigate out of, and a console you reach from any browser on the network. Nothing has phoned home, and nothing will.
