Is UniKiosk really free?
Yes. No per-screen fee, no monthly cost, no screen limit, no feature held back and no card asked for. The pricing page explains why that is sustainable rather than a trial in disguise.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no account system at all. Nothing on the device signs in to anything, which is also why nobody — including us — can reset your admin PIN for you.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. Layouts and media live on the device, so the board plays with no connection at all. Only widgets that fetch something — weather, RSS, calendar feeds — need one, and they hold their last value when it is unavailable. See how offline works.
What Android versions are supported?
Android 9.0 (API 28) and later, on tablets, TV sticks, set-top boxes and commercial Android panels.
Why is it not on the Play Store?
A signage app that hides the system bars and swallows the home key sits awkwardly with Play policy. The build is signed, and the app bundle is published beside the APK for anyone who wants to run it through their own Play Console or MDM. A listing of our own and an F-Droid entry are on the roadmap.
How do I manage more than a few screens?
Today, one console per panel, with layouts moved between them as exported JSON. That is the honest limit of the current design; fleet management is the top item on the roadmap. For a large estate right now, a cloud product may serve you better — see the comparison.
Can somebody get out of the kiosk?
Not through the software: the bars are hidden and held hidden, home and recents are swallowed, and the way back in is five taps in the bottom-left corner followed by a PIN. Physical access is a different matter — no app can stop the power button or safe mode without device-owner provisioning. The lockdown guide is explicit about the boundary.
Does it collect any data about us?
No. There is no telemetry endpoint, no analytics SDK and no account system. Nothing leaves the device.
Can it show Persian, Arabic or Hebrew?
Yes, with proper right-to-left rendering and typefaces you upload yourself. See right-to-left and custom typefaces.
Can I use the templates commercially?
Yes — the layouts are yours to use and modify. The placeholder photographs bundled with them are not: replace them with your own before a board faces customers.
What happens if UniCore stops developing it?
The build you installed keeps working, because it does not check in with anything. That is a genuine advantage of having no cloud component, and it is worth weighing against the missing fleet features.
Can I get support?
Paid support is available as a service arrangement — get in touch. It is not a licence you need in order to use the software.
